WIN SOMETHING YOU REALLY WANT AND MAYBE EVEN NEED...WAIT, NO "MAYBE" ABOUT IT...YOU NEED THIS

Did you get everything on your Christmas [book] list? I asked my husband for an Amazon gift card, but he bought me a book instead. Granted, it was one I asked for--The Hidden Christ by James Ferrell, so thank you very much, dear. Really. I just started reading it and I know I'm going to love it. (BTW…I highly recommend Ferrell’s other two books, The Peacegiver and The Holy Secret—they’re different than the typical novel, but their messages are amazing. His newest book is nonfiction).

This is actually not a post about author James Ferrell or what I got for Christmas, but a post about you and what you got for Christmas and you winning something that will store and display all those book somethings you got for Christmas. Yes, today is the day I'm announcing an awesome give-away…the chance to win something that book-lovers and book-collectors can never get too many of…bookcases.

I am giving away a bookcase valued at $60, courtesy of csnbookcases.com. Please check out their lovely website with all the varied and wonderful possibilities for bookcases. I especially love the ones designed for children found here. Someday, I would love to design a playroom for grandkids with cool shelves for kids books. So fun!

This very well may be my first ever blog giveaway, so I'm making it a good one. The lucky winner will get to choose ONE of these three bookcases... (and no, I'm not coming over to assemble it if assembly is required.)

Books, framed photos, and is that a box of tissue, not included.

To enter, please humor me and become a follower on my blog. (If I hit 100 followers (aiming high) I will give lucky number 100 a gift certificate for vinyl lettering worth $15.

Let's see, how else can you make my day...hmmm...comments, lots and lots of comments... (as I cackle and rub my hands together... I've got you in my power now. You want that bookcase don't you? DON'T YOU?) So leave a comment and convince me that you'll buy my novel whenever in the heck I finish writing/revising/editing/ submitting/publishing it. And yes, I realize you don't even know the title of it yet (except for the favored few) but just promise me, PROMISE ME.

Sorry for the lapse there. How about just a comment telling me a book you got for Christmas and if you really didn't get one for Christmas then I am so sorry and I will personally file a complaint with the North Pole in your behalf. But level with me, were you just not good enough this year?

Okay, here's the bottom line:

1) one entry for becoming a follower/two if you already are (early bird gets the worm and all) as of riiiiight....NOW.
2) one entry for a comment
3) two entries for sharing the contest complete with link on your blog or any of those other online places you like to haunt. Just let me know where.

Did I forget anything? How about more prizes? I sell vinyl lettering, so I will also pick some winners to receive $15 gift certificates for custom lettering. This will be after I draw the big bookcase winner because it is so lame to be picked for a lesser prize and then be out of the running for the greater, more awesome prize. It's so, so...yeah, lame. And I am not about lameness here at the Of Writerly Things blogspot.

I'll post about the contest over at my vinyl lettering blog. Feel free to stop by there as well.

CONTEST WINNER TO BE ANNOUNCED ON MY ANNIVERSARY: FEBRUARY 12, 2010!!!!!

You sure know my weaknesses. Books and bookcases. I really enjoyed their website lots of neat bookcases. I am like the earlier lady and would love to show this on my blog but don't know how.

OOOHHH! I was #50 does that get me 1/2 a vinyl lettering thing? LOL
I got five cookbooks for Christmas. Me thinks someone is trying to give me hints.

Jane and Susan, click on the title and then copy the blog addy in the top addy bar. Then make a post and add the link in the post. :)

Wow. That would mean I would no longer have stacks of books on my dresser. My husband would think I suddenly became illiterate! I'll take the chance.

Check my blog for a link later today!

I look forward to reading your novel when it comes out. I have put a link to your contest on my blog at http://joansowards.blogspot.com/
And I'm already a follower. Happy blogging!

I was already a follower. I'm not sure if we're supposed to leave a comment for each entry . . . so don't be annoyed since I am going to do just that. =)

Happy follower entry #2!

We totally need more bookshelves. In fact, we need bookshelves so bad, my daughter asked for one for her birthday! =)

I shared your contest on facebook! (entry 1)

Oooh, bookcases! Well, I'm already a follower. Yeah! Lucky me. We got lots of books for Christmas (and are in desperate need of bookcases). Personally I got The Maze Runner and Heroes Die Young.

Marilyn said...

I'm already a follower, and your blog is already posted on my blog. So that just means I need to tell you the name of the book I got for Christmas, right? Well Tommy bought it for me and the title is "The art of racing in the rain". Anyway, there you are!

Anonymous said...

Oh, how I need a bookcase! Could you also include a room addition? I have books in my garage I would love to put in my house, but alas, no BOOKCASE! Imagine my office - bookcases, file cabinets, odds and ends furniture, and a row of books across the center of the room just begging for a BOOKCASE!

I will buy and read your book even if I don't win the BOOKCASE but I just really need one more (bookcase), so please consider me. My comment counts as one and I am a fan of yours (counts as 2) and have not got a blog. If I can find my FB I'll comment there too and let you know.

Thanks you,
Barbara B

I for to tell you abou the book I bought mysef for Christmas. Just gave it to my sister and can't remember exact name but it is about "Conversatons With God". Really a neat book to have just "laying around". People can't resist picking it up after seeing the cover and title.

Commenting on my book from Christmas. I didnt actually get one FOR Christmas but got Bree Desapins The Dark Divine and it's fun! I also just finished Josi Kilpack's Lemon Tart, haven't done culinary mystery before and enjoyed it.

I posted the link to your blog on my facebook page. I'm Debbie Cranberryfries there too.

I got the book Fallen, by Lauren Kate, but before I could read it, my brother loaned me his copies of The Hunger Games and Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. Oh my gosh, LOVED THEM! Now halfway through Fallen (thanks to a vacation during which I got zero reading done) and am really intrigued.

Also, I gave my teen son a copy of The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan, and that is next on my list.

And I was just talking to my husband this afternoon about how badly we need to get more bookshelves. =) So, I'm off to mention this on Facebook, Twitter, and hopefully on my blog (but not until tomorrow for the blog).

Wish me luck!

I'm excited to hear more about your book--you'll have to give us a hint at the title. :)
I'd love to win the big bookcase or the kid's one.
Awesome giveaway!

Peggy Urry said...

Didn't you say something in your 'Catching Fire' post about owing me??? ;-) How about an extra entry? I could so-o-o use a bookcase for the stacks on and near my nightstand of books. Could I win some time to read those books, too? I'm going to post your link on my facebook and my writer blog.

Krista Darrach said...

Valerie, Valerie,
I certainly DO NOT need any kinda contest to 'get' me to read your book. In fact didn't I just mention in an email that you need to have me edit it? I think I did. So I'm waiting patiently for you to reconstruct it. yeah.. that's it.
I'd love a bookcase, maybe that would allow me to get more books, as it is I'm a less is more freak. And If I don't have a place for it, I don't get it. So I borrow books a lot. =)
So.. I was already a follower, and I'll plug the FANTASTIC LETTERING and link your contest on my blog. Mearly because I love you - not because I need a bookshelf.
*wink*

where to start?
I love your blog! And did I mention I love your blog?
I cannot wait to read your book. Yes I will pay cash for it, easily.
I will also become a follower as soon as I figure out my own blog and get it up and running. Soon. Hopefully before your contest ends! Love, Tamara

I got The Art of Homemaking by Daryl Hoole (1969) at our ANWA gift exchange. I LOVE IT!! I have been talking about it on FB for a week now. I also am excited about your book and will gladly pay cash for it to put on my new bookshelf that I hope I can win. I would like my copy to be personally autographed since I was there at the beginning of the first few chapters.

Stacy said...

I have added you to my side bar on my blog...

And...

I have put you on my profile for FB. Dang, I want to win this bookshelf. When the hub gets home, he will be tweeting you for me:)

Stacy said...

I have joined the twitter world and you are my first tweet. That sounded weird, but it gets me another entry, right?

I also found out recently that my husband reads your blog, who knew?

Valerie Ipson said...

Plus, "teammom," I'll give you an EXTRA entry because your husband's a reader. :)

Todd G. said...

Hey Valerie,

You've successfully lured me into "following" you on your blog site. I note there is some guy named Lance who also has decided to follow you. If that guy wins the bookcase I'm going to cry foul.*

I also PROMISE I'll buy your book.

Todd G.

* I can talk to Valerie this way because she's my sister and Lance is a certain brother-in-law of mine. By the way, you may notice several people claiming Valerie as a sister. I can confirm that Valerie actually does have quite a number of brothers and sisters.

Valerie Ipson said...

Hi, Todd!

To show how shock-ed and amaz-ed I am to see you showing up here, I didn't even recognize your little "follower" photo when it appeared. I'm like "who's 'tcg'--hmmm...some guy in a suit and tie...."

Anyway, welcome.

I will have to reiterate to Lance that anyone who lives within the confines of my home (the term "confines" not literal here, I think)is ineligible to receive any prizes. Now if he moves out before contest end, we'll then know how badly he wants a free bookcase, which ultimately will be sad since I'm revealing the winner on our 28th wedding anniversary.

So how to I become a "follower". I had to follow you around the first 18 years of your life and you expect me to do it now!? No doubt we can all use more bookcases. Interestingly enough your step mother brought one home today! Love Dad

Joyce DiPastena said...

Okay, Valerie, I am now an "official" follower of your blog! (Don't know how signing up for that slipped through my typing fingers earlier, but somehow it did.)

And I PROMISE to buy your book, because if it's as funny as your blog (and how could it not be?), then it's gonna be a keeper. :-)

There's two. Now I'm off to Twitter about your contest. Does that count as three entries? Heck, I'll Facebook about it, too while I'm at it!

Joanne Asburry said...

You bet I'll by the book and you will sign it right? I love a signed book. I don't have a blog but will post this on my facebook as we have an excellent book club going on. In fact... how cool would it be to get you to come be a special speaker... hummm. Rock on Sister!

I actually didn't get any books for Christmas...but I bought at lot for gifts! Audrey's new fave is "Fancy Nancy" or "Fancy Fancy" as she says most of the time!

Entry #1: I am now a follower on this blog too! (I thought I already was...oops!)

Entry #2: Shared on FB!

Entry #3: Posted a link on my blog!

We personally don't have room for a bookcase (thought I'm sure it could be squeezed somewhere, we have a few corners left), but I have a preschool that could probably use one!

I got the book titled "The Christmas Pageant".

Thanks Lisa for posting it on FB.

Okay, I just became a follower and now I'm commenting! For Christmas I got Hunger Games and Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. I need an awesome bookcase to keep them on!

Valerie Ipson said...

You must have been a VERY good girl to have received those two books--they were my favorite reads of last year.

(Actually, they were more than favorites--I obsessed over them as several blog posts will attest)

Valerie Ipson said...

Note: I neglected to mention that my last post was directed to AZ Larsens and those particular two books.
