3 THINGS FOR SEPTEMBER
I have faith in my story, IDEAL HIGH, and feel like if more people out there knew about it, then it could reach its target audience, and maybe even do some good. Sure, it's fun that so many have read it and enjoyed it, and I appreciate EVERY SINGLE review, really, thank you, (see reviews here) but I'd love it to impact teenagers...kids in high school and junior high right now going through some of the things my main characters Taryn, Chelsea, and Jackie face in my book. I received an email from a young lady named Meghan saying she loved the book, and I guess I would love more of that, so I've hired a publicist.
I'll keep you posted on how that goes...
I've had two amazing editions to my family this month by way of a wedding and a birth, and they just serve to highlight what's most important...FAMILY!

NOMINATED!
I'm not purposely keeping secrets from my blog, but I realize there are several fun writing things I haven't even mentioned here. I mean what's the purpose of a blog if it doesn't know all so that it can tell all???
In an effort to inform, I'll start with something super fun that happened last April concerning my novel IDEAL HIGH...
While this is just the first step in the process (the finalists will be announced next February) it still means a lot to me. I remember so vividly attending my 1st LDStorymakers Conference in Provo, Utah all those years ago. I felt such a great writerly camaraderie there, and that excitement literally exploded at the Whitney Awards banquet held at the close of conference. (No, not literally, it's just a pun.) To have my very own book honored by the Whitney Committee is a huge deal.

21st Annual ANWA Writers Conference Coming
to Phoenix/Mesa
The American Night Writers Association is hosting it’s 21st
annual, national writers conference, “Time Out for Writers,” at the Phoenix
East/Mesa Hilton Hotel on February 21-23, 2013.
Registration is now open to all writers, whether novice or published,
and teachers!

We Lived In Heaven by Sarah Hinze
While helping me with the dishes, Jennica looked out the window and starting waving.

IDEAL HIGH UPDATE
Taryn Young’s plans for an amazing senior year are over before they begin. Grieving the deaths of several of her classmates, she has no intention of taking her late boyfriend's place as student body president...until she finds out who is running in her place. If Chelsea Manor becomes president it means nothing changes. Ideal High remains less than ideal...and Taryn doesn’t want to let that happen. She owes that much to Blake’s memory.As president, she butts heads with a principal who doesn’t want his school labeled, a bullied student who doesn’t want to be rescued, and a student body suspicious of her motives. Throw in a hot cowboy-type, who is totally not her type, and Chelsea with all her angst over the accident, and it’s not long before Taryn is wondering why she dragged herself from the safety of her warm bed where at least she could grieve in private.
Good news in the WIP department.
NOVEMBER: Sent manuscript to a professional editor and paid for a Content Evaluation. It was just what I needed...in black and white...the good, the bad, the ugly.
DECEMBER: Mulled over the evaluation while I shopped, wrapped, entertained, cooked, fed, played games, became a grandma, enjoyed...you get the idea.
JANUARY: Revised and set goal to be finished (and I mean in capital letters FINISHED, so, for reals FINISHED) by January 23rd.
JANUARY 22 at midnight Eastern (so 10 PM Arizona): Submitted manuscript to the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award contest (ABNA).
So here's to IDEAL HIGH, all 75,984 words of it. We've spent a lot of time together over the years and, hopefully, this is only the beginning. I have no expectations for the contest, passing even the first round would be great, but it gave me a deadline and I MADE IT!
