Writing tip #39

While revising a novel in the bathtub generally makes for a very damp manuscript, it proves to be a productive use of editing time.

Where's the most unusual place you've worked on your manuscript?

I'm still trying to find a way to write in the tub. How do you make it work? I'm trying to think of the most unusual place I've written. I'll do it just about anywhere, actually.

Hm... In the parking lot waiting for my son to get out of school? It didn't work very well--bright sun on computer monitor. No fun.

I've read in the shower before . . . and I've written in the bath tub. I wrote at Chic-fil-a once. I've written in the airport and on planes and on top (middle) of mountains. I've always thought would be cool to write while on a date. (Trust me, I've been on some epic fail dates that make me wish I brought my computer or a notebook . . .)

I've edited in the bathtub before :) I write in the car all the time when I hit stoplights--that way I don't lose any of my ideas. I've written in church.

I don't have any fantastic place to add, I just have to say LOL to Jessica and her dating regrets! ROFL

I love to read in the tub so editing makes sense. I have written ideas on my hand so I won't forget. I have written in bed. I can't think of anything exotic but I do get ideas in the swimming pool and pulling weeds, and walking the dog and house cleaning, etc.

LOL! Love it.

I'll have to admit, no electronic devices were used while editing in the tub---just old-fashioned printed out pages and a red pen.

I'll have another tip tomorrow...one I discovered today.

Thanks for the fun comments!

I began my writing debut on a camping trip in our trailer on a rainy day when our truck broke down. If I ever make it as a writer, I'll have to credit it to that day.

Upstairs in The Chocolate (dessert cafe) in Orem.

A friend gave me bathtub crayons once so I could plot in the shower - nothing like streaming hot water to loosen you up and get the creative juices flowing!

In my trailer. While camping. Hooked up to the generator.

Sometimes I write things down on a notepad in bed in the dark in the middle of the night. If something comes to me and I don't want to forget it, but I don't want to wake up my hubby. Occasionally I'll look at what I've written in the morning and wonder what the heck it means. Maybe I need to invest in a little pen with a light on the end?

The water in my tub doesn't get hot enough to enjoy a good soak. It's an engineering headache. I HAVE written at the glass place while they installed a new window in my van.
I've written in the car on the way to Phoenix, countless doctor's or dentist's offices, restaurants...anywhere I have time to kill and a flat enough surface...;o)

I've been known to work out scenes in my head while playing or practicing the piano. This lack of focus is how I knew early on that I wasn't cut out to be a professional pianist. The more I practice a piece and the better I learn it, the more I find my mind drifting off into "writing" scenes while my fingers are pounding out notes.
